Top 25 Best Albums Of 2016

Hey guys, LokoReviews here and I wasn't really planning on making this since I was still working on my worst list video. But since the laptop I have is really messed up and I don't have any other family members that owns a laptop, I had to postpone my worst list video until I get a new laptop. So I decided to make things up for everyone by making this blog post of the 25 best albums I heard this year in 2016. Now I haven't listened to every album that was released this year, but I did listen to enough albums to make this list. So without wasting time, here are the top 25 best albums in 2016 (in my opinion).

25. D.R.A.M.'s "Big Baby D.R.A.M."

Best Songs:

1. Wifi
2. Cute
3. Broccoli

Quick thoughts: When I first heard of D.R.A.M. back in 2015 where Drake was copying him, I didn't know if he would be sticking around. But I'm glad he got success this year because he deserves it after releasing this good album. This album got some really good vibes and D.R.A.M. is a really charming and sweet performer. Even though that this album does have tracks that I don't really care for, this is still a good album and D.R.A.M. deserves all the success he received.

24. Majid Jordan's "Majid Jordan"

Best Songs:

1. Pacifico
2. My Love ft. Drake
3. Shake Shake Shake

Quick Thoughts: I feel like I'm going to be the only music reviewer who actually really likes this album and put it on their best list. I know it's not the best album and Majid Jordan aren't really household names, but fuck it, I really like this album. This album is filled with a lot of fun and dark 80's style Funk tracks mixed in with some good modern sound I like. Also Majid Maskiti delivers with really good vocals, while Jordan Ullman comes through with some really nice production. Overall, I really like this album and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Check it out if you haven't listened to it.

23. Ariana Grande's "Dangerous Woman"

Best Songs:

1. Into You
2. Greedy
3. Side To Side

Quick Thoughts: Ariana Grande definitely stepped her game on this album with great vocals, nice production, and really good/fun pop songs. Yeah, there are moments in this album where the lyrics can get really stupid and there are some songs on this that is not all that good. But overall, I like this album a lot and Ariana definitely impressed me. Can't wait to see what she got next.

22. Panic! At The Disco's "Death Of A Bachelor"

Best Songs:

1. Golden Days
2. LA Devotee
3. Emperor's New Clothes

Quick Thoughts: I never really payed too much attention to Panic! At The Disco when they were the hottest thing ever. But I'm glad I gave them a chance here, because this a really good rock album. Even though that this is a Brandon Urie solo album, it still have that same Panic! feel and there are definitely some gems on here. I don't really know what's next for Panic! At The Disco, but if they keep on making good albums like this, then I would like that a lot.

21. Childish Gambino's "Awaken My Love"

Best Songs:

1. Me and Your Momma
2. Zombies
3. Boogieman

Quick Thoughts: Childish Gambino always fascinated me with how he switch up his sound with each album he releases and this album here is definitely his most strangest & experimental project. But I love the fact that this album is strange & experimental because we get all these dark and interesting sounds while still having powerful messages, a cool concept, and just an overall enjoyable experience. Also Childish definitely killed it on this album, even though he does have some weird vocal moments. Overall, this is the most strangest album I listened to this year, but Childish definitely delivered and I love it.

20. Lindsey Sterling's "Brave Enough"

Best Songs:

1. Lost Girls
2. The Phoenix
3. Mirage

Quick Thoughts: I never thought that mixing EDM with Violin would be this good. Lindsey Sterling definitely did her thing on this album with some glorious violin playing. This album also got some fun pop songs for me to jam out to, which is always a plus. I don't really have that much to say here, it's just a really good album with awesome violin playing and fun pop songs. Also really good job Lindsey Sterling for this one.

19. ScHoolboy Q's "Blank Face LP"

Best Songs:

1. Neva CHange
2. Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane
3. WHateva U Want

Quick THoughts: Listening to this made me respect ScHoolboy Q, because wHen He first became well known to tHe public, I tHougHt He was just some typical Gangsta rapper. Even tHougH that He does talk about being a gangsta on tHis album, the way He delivers on tHis album is really good. I truly believe tHat He does live tHat gangsta life with How grimy His voice is, tHe production cHoices He cHose, and especially tHe lyrics tHat mostly talks about living tHat gangsta life and How to Handle it. So yeah... THis album is good and I can't wait to Hear more from ScHoolboy Q.

18. Mike Posner's "At Night, Alone"

Best Songs:

1. I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)
2. Jade
3. Be As You Are

Quick Thoughts: Who would have thought I would end up putting Mike Posner on a Best list? But he did it and definitely improved a lot. Like his voice is more controlled, he's not making dumb songs, and he's actually being personal. In this album, he talks about being depressed, being a better person than he was before, and he even brings up on how he's known for being a one hit wonder. I don't any other artist who would discuss all that in one album and making it all sound, but Mike Posner did it and I'm super happy he's back because he deserves it all after releasing this really good album and releasing plenty of songs I adore (especially I Took A Pill In Ibiza SeeB Remix). Really good album and I can't wait to hear what Mike Posner got next.

17. Kendrick Lamar's "Untitled Unmastered"

Best Songs:

1. Untitled 2
2. Untitled 5
3. Untitled 3

Quick Thoughts: For an album that are just leftovers from To Pimp A Butterfly, a lot of songs on here are still fire and some of them can fit perfectly with TPAB. Kendrick is still spitting about issues on how Black people are treated in today's society and talks about how he's living right now. The production on here is still top notch with bringing in that dark and fun type of sound I expect from Kendrick. To be honest, I don't think Kendrick will ever surpass TPAB and this album doesn't even come close to topping it. But it's still a great album and Kendrick is still the best thing ever.

Speaking of leftovers...

16. Carly Rae Jepsen's "Emotion Side B"

Best Songs:

1. Cry
2. First Time
3. Roses

Quick Thoughts: Even though that these are of course Side B's from the "Emotion" album, a lot of the songs on here are still great and can easily fit in with the original album. There's not much to say here because Carly still brings that fun, upbeat, and even emotional tracks that were in the original. But there are definitely gems on this album that should be listened to by everyone and Carly Rae definitely did a great job on this album full of leftovers.

Speaking of Carly Rae Jepsen....

15. Various Artists's "PC Music VOL. 2"

Best Songs:

1. Poison
2. Supernatural
3. Superstar

Quick Thoughts: I didn't even know that this album or Vol. 1 even existed until really awesome people on Twitter I follow recommended to listen to them and I got to say... I LOVE IT!!! This is one of the most great collection of pop songs I ever heard with all these different artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Hannah Diamond, and many others contributing to it. The productions are really upbeat and enjoyable to listen to, there's a lot of interesting artists that have unique voices, and a lot of the songs on here have a ton of replay value. Overall, this is great stuff and I got to thank everyone who recommended me this.

14. King's "We Are King"

Best Songs:

1. The Greatest
2. Hey
3. Oh, Please!

Quick Thoughts: If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for great soul music, great R&B, and really great female vocalists and this album delivers all those things I adore. Not only that, but this album is really relaxing with the slow and chilled out production. Also each member in King have really nice voices and I love it. I also love this album and I'm definitely going to listen to more of King's music to see if it's as great or better than this album. Check it out!!!

13. PJ's "Rare"

Best Songs:

1. Tell Me ft. Jevon Doe
2. Gangster
3. Come Down

Quick Thoughts: Fun Fact... Did you know that I found out about this artist from a tweet I saw from Mike Posner? Yeah, Mike Posner actually made me check out an artist I never heard of and I gotta thank him because this album is great. This album has to be the most charming album I heard this year with really nice Hip Hop/R&B production, PJ who got a lot of personality when she sings, and it's even Disney themed. And who doesn't love Disney? Overall, this album is great and everyone should check it out. Also that album cover is top notch.

12. Chance The Rapper's "Coloring Book"

Best Songs:

1. Blessings
2. No Problem
3. Same Drugs

Quick Thoughts: I wasn't really sure how I was going to feel when listening to this because I haven't really got into Chance The Rapper. But thankfully, I loved it and Chance The Rapper is wonderful. He brings so much harm and have a lot of energy that I can't help but smile while listening to his music. Also most of the features he have on this album definitely delivers and a lot of the production on here are superb. Overall, this is a great album and I'm happy that Chance The Rapper is around.

11. Koi Child's "Koi Child"

Best Songs:

1. Touch Em'
2. Wumpa Fruit
3. Black Panda

Quick Thoughts: This album was also a recommendation from an awesome person I follow on Twitter and MAN... This album is great. The best part of this album EASILY is the instrumentation. All of the songs on here have really good, nice, and enjoyable instruments playing throughout. This album got nice piano playing, drums, guitar, horn, and even a sweaty sax solo. This album also have rapping in it by Koi Child and they were definitely serviceable. But the instrumentation definitely made this album as great as it was and I got to thank Keenan Edwards for recommending me this album.

10. YG's "Still Brazy"

Best Songs:

1. FDT
2. Don't Come To LA
3. Who Shot Me?

Quick Thoughts: Just like with ScHoolboy Q, I didn't really care for YG because I thought he was just your typical Gangster rapper. But this album definitely made me respect him a lot. What makes me love this album is not just how he talks about his life as a gangster, but he goes political and bring out important messages about Police Brutality and how Donald Trump is the worst thing ever. Not only that, but I love the west coast Hip Hop sound it brings and there's no DJ Mustard involved which is also a plus. Overall, this album is great and YG definitely impressed me with one.

9. The Weeknd's "Starboy"

Best Songs:

1. Starboy ft. Daft Punk
2. False Alarm
3. Party Monster

Quick Thoughts: The Weeknd done it again and released another album I love. I know that there are a lot people who were disappointed by this album and said that it's his worst album he made & yeah, I agree that it's not his best work and a lot of it don't have that same The Weeknd feel to it. But for me, I love it and I believe that this is just as great as Beauty Behind The Madness. It still has that give no fucks attitude I expect from The Weeknd, the majority of the production are great, The Weeknd sounds great here, and I love the concept on this album. I won't go into full detail on what's the concept is, but you should know that The Weeknd is vulnerable on this bum and he even talks about his success and he talks about it in a excellent way. Like I said, this is not the best Weeknd album I heard, but it's still a great album with a bunch of songs I love and have a ton of replay value. So overall, I love this!

8. Aesop Rock's "The Impossible Kid"

Best Songs:

1. Mystery Fish
2. Lotta Years
3. Dorks

Quick Thoughts: This year, I listened to a lot of albums from artists I'm not really used to and Aesop Rock is one of them. But he definitely delivers the best rap album I heard this year. Aesop Rock is just awesome in this album as he talks about his life and how he dealt with things like school, growing up, and etc. Also the production on here is really great. If you haven't listened to this album, go check it out ASAP because it rocks.

7. Beyoncé's "Lemonade"

Best Songs:

1. Daddy Lessons
2. Freedom
3. Sandcastles

Quick Thoughts: When I heard that BeyoncĂ© was releasing a new album this year, I wasn't really too excited for it. But when I did listen to it and kept on listening to it more, I came to love it and appreciate BeyoncĂ©. Most of this album consist of BeyoncĂ© talking about how her marriage with Jay-Z is having some trouble with him being around other girls and not loving her like he used to. And BeyoncĂ© still brings that I don't need a man attitude like we expect from her, but she still have faith in their relationship and she wants to make things better. Every song on here definitely delivers with it's lyrical content, but the production is also great and BeyoncĂ© sounds amazing on this. Overall, this is the best album that BeyoncĂ© have ever made and I'm interested to know what she got next.

6. XY&O's "Shimmer and Shade"

Best Songs:

1. Fahrenheit
2. I'm Not Right
3. Lights On

Quick Thoughts: I doubt that anyone who is reading this knew this album even existed and I don't blame you. But you should definitely check it out because this is the most excellent Electro-Pop album I ever heard. The production is glorious with great & catchy melodies, nice beat work, great guitar playing, and one of the best tropical vibes I heard all year. Not only that, but this album is really relaxing and chill & I listen to this all the time whenever I need to lay down and just have a chill moment. Also this is a perfect album to play during the summer, especially if you're at the beach. The lyrics are also great and the vocals are spot on to make everything great. Overall, I love this album and I want EVERYONE to listen to it.

5. Banks's "The Alter"

Best Songs:

1. Gemini Feed
2. Weaker Girl
3. Poltergeist

Quick Thoughts: This album keeps on getting better and better every time I listen to it. It's so dark with every element from the lyrics, production, and even Banks herself. But it still manages to make everything flow in well and there a lot of great songs on this album. What makes this album work for me is Banks, her performance on this album is so dark and creepy that I honestly feel her and she sounds great as well (even though there's a lot of vocal effects). Also a lot of the songs on here got plenty of replay value and that's all the reason why I love this album. Check it out and Banks did a really great job on here.

4. Anderson Paak's "Malibu"

Best Songs:

1. Am I Wrong
2. The Bird
3. Come Down

Quick Thoughts: This album came out during January, a month where Albums are not really all good or remembered. But this album is so great that I listened to it throughout the whole year and I never got sick of it. Anderson Paak is a really talented guy who knows how to make great jams with really enjoyable instrumentation on every track. This album is so great that I'm speechless. It's just an album that you need to listen to and just feel all the vibes it has. I definitely felt all the vibes it has and I loved it. Great album and Anderson Paak is awesome.

3. Tinashe's "Nightride"

Best Songs:

1. Ride Of Your Life
2. Lucid Dreaming
3. You Can Stay Here Tonight

Quick Thoughts: Tinashe is my ultimate celebrity crush and knowing she released another great album just warms my heart. No seriously, this album is great. Tinashe sounds amazing and very sensual here, there are a lot of unique production choices I dig a lot, and this album is just really REALLY sexy. I don't really call too many things sexy, but this album is very sexy and Tinashe definitely pulls it off. What more can I say, Tinashe is my bae and she didn't disappoint. ❤️

2. David Bowie's "Blackstar"

Best Songs:

1. Blackstar
2. Lazarus
3. 'Tis a pity she was a whore

Quick Thoughts: I know I'm not the first or the last person who will put this album on their best album list. And you what, this album deserves to be on every best album list this year because it's truly amazing and heartbreaking. This is basically a swan album and how David Bowie knows he's not going to live forever & just move on to a better place. And knowing that this actually happened because of him dying two days after this album was released, just makes everything about this album so haunting and heartbreaking. But I'm glad that he end things off with one of the best and emotional albums I heard & he definitely left a legacy we will never forget. Rest In Peace.

1. Car Seat Headrest's "Teens Of Denial"

Best Songs:

1. Vincent
2. Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
3. Unforgiving Girl (She's not an)

Quick Thoughts: I listened to this album like just last week and I knew that it was topping my best album list. Don't get me wrong, I love every album I added on this list, but this one definitely touched me personally and I related to it a lot. This album talks about being depressed all the time, trying to be accepted in the world especially around teenagers, having suicidal thoughts, and just trying your hardest to get your life together. All those different topics I definitely experienced in my life and I love how I can easily relate to it. Also this album got the best instrumentation I heard in any album this year and Will Toledo did a great job with his vocals and giving a really enjoyable and emotional performance. Overall, this album is one of a kind and this deserves to be called the best album of 2016.

Well, that's it for this blog post. Tell me what do you think about my choices and let me know if you agree or disagree with my choices. Also tell me what albums this year I didn't put on this list that you want me to listen to. Plus tell me what's the best album you heard in 2016. So I hope you guys enjoyed and I'll definitely be making more blog posts until I get a new laptop for me to start working on my videos again. So thank you all and I'll see you guys later.
