Visions (2015) movie review

Hey guys, LokoReviews here and today I'm going to be reviewing another Blumhouse horror movie called Visions.

Here's the trailer:

Now this movie is about this couple that move into this house while they're about to have this baby and the Wife played by Isla Fisher experience these weird visions, but only herself can see them & everyone doesn't believe her and thinks she lost her mind. But she thinks the house she just moved in to is actually haunted.

Now I saw this movie on Netflix and I was curious on how this movie will turn out. Also I was interested to find out that Blumhouse produced it because I never even knew it existed until I did my research. And this movie got a lot of big names like the lead actress Isla Fisher who was countless of popular movies like Wedding Crashers & The Great Gatsby. Jim Parsons who is mostly known for Shelton on the Big Bang Theory. And Eva Longoria, which I'm surprised she was even in this movie.

So after watching this movie, I have to say that this movie was mediocre at best.

Like the acting from all the actors and actresses were solid and there were some legitimate creepy & intense scenes.

Also there was some amazing and beautiful shots in this film. Like there was this one scene where the wife was on top of a hill holding her pregnant stomach while the sun was shining. And the way that it was shot was just perfect.

But there was just a lot of problems I had with this film.

The big problem I had with this film was that it started off really slow and I wasn't really invested in anything that was going on until like the middle to near end of the film. Like I was literally about to pause the movie and fall asleep, because there was nothing interesting going on. But even when the movie does start to pick up, I still found problems with it.

Like this movie isn't really that scary or have that many scary moments. Like I said there were some creepy & eerie stuff that was happening, but most of the scares was just jump scares and I wasn't feeling them. Also this movie isn't technically a horror movie. Yeah, it got some horror elements with the house being haunted but all the scary stuff are just the backstories or should I say "Visions" of what's actually happening.

So overall, this movie is just mediocre. It did have some creepy scenes and the ending was really good & caught me off guard. But the movie was just too slow and it's not really that scary of a film. But if you want to check it out for yourself and see what the think, it's on Netflix right now. And overall, I have to give this film a 2.5/5.

Well, that's it for the review. If you enjoyed this review, then let me know. Also tell me what do you think about this movie, if you saw it though. So thank you for tuning in and I'll see you guys later. So this is James Kaloko and everyone in this world, just stay loco, peace!!!

Viral (2016) horror movie review

Hey guys, LokoReviews here and today, I got a movie review for the recent horror movie from Blumhouse called Viral.

Here's the trailer:

Now Viral is about this outbreak of a virus that wipes out the majority of the human population and we follow this young lady named Emma played by Sofia Black D'Elia as she documents her family's new life in quarantine & tries to protect her sister that sadly gets infected.

Now for the people who didn't know or haven't followed me on Twitter (Here's my Twitter: @LokoReviews), lately I've been obsessed with watching all of Blumhouse horror movies,

I know a lot of their horror movies are not that good and doesn't really hold up, but they do occasionally make pretty solid films and I try to give them a benefit of a doubt. So when I heard that Blumhouse was making a movie called Viral, I was pretty interested and the the trailers definitely impressed me.

So after I got done seeing it, how does this movie hold up?

Well,,, It's actually a pretty decent film.

I thought the performances from most of the actors and actresses were solid like the lead actress Sofia Black D'Elia who plays Emma was really good.

Analeigh Tipton who played Stacey was also good and shared a really good bond and connection with her sister Emma.

And Travis Tope who plays the love interset to Sofia's character did a solid job and also shared a nice bond & connection with Emma.

I also cared for some of the characters like Emma who started off shy and awkward at the beginning, but later on held her own by being sweet, caring, and definitely protective over the ones she loves. Another character I cared for was Stacey. At first, I wasn't really feeling her character because I thought she was just your typical teenage girl who only cared about boys and partying. But when she got infected, she was more mature, caring for her sister, and I felt sorry for her & I wanted her to be safe. The last character I cared about in this film was Evan and even though we don't get to know that much of his personality, he was supportive and I definitely cared about his relationship with him & Emma.

The last thing I liked about this movie is that there was some legitimate tense and scary moments in this film. And there were a bunch of solid drama filled moments that I wasn't expecting at all.

But even with all the positive things I said about this film, there were a lot of problems in it that I felt brung this movie down from being great.

First off, the premise of this movie has been done to death & even though I didn't mind it, there are other films that did this premise way better. Speaking of the premise, I didn't really buy that parasites could turn people into infected zombies. I know that parasites can get inside people and make them feel sick and weak, but I doubt they can turn people into real life Zombies.

Another thing I didn't like and care for was some of the characters.

Like Micahel Kelly who plays the father of both Sofia and Analeigh's characters wasn't bad & he did contribute a little. But I didn't really feel a connection with his character and he barely got a chance to shine.

Another character I didn't care for was this anonymous guy. I mean this guy was sort of interesting on how he thinks the government caused this whole outbreak, but he was barely in the movie and we didn't get to hear or see from him again. And we didn't get to know who this person was, so what was the point of adding him when he contributes to absolutely nothing? Blumhouse, you guys better explain!???

But the last character I didn't care for or liked at all was Machine Gun Kelly's character. Now Machine Gun Kelly is a decent rapper in my opinion who made some good songs and he seems like a cool guy in real life, but his character in this movie was just so Douchy, generic, and pointless that I wanted him dead when he first showed up. And thank goodness he was killed off because I didn't like or cared for him at all.

This photo is hilarious! :D

Now the last problem I have with this film was that it has a bunch of typical stuff you see in any horror movie especially with Blumhouse. A family that lives in the suburbs and has to deal with a terrifying situation, that's definitely basic Blumhouse stuff. Generic characters, that's in a lot of horror movies. Cheap and false jump scares, oh..... That's definitely in a shit loads of horror movies. And lastly, characters that do dumb decisions.

But even with all that negativity, this was still a decent movie. It's not a movie that everyone will like because it does have a lot of problems. But if you're a horror movie fan and want something to watch, definitely check this movie out. And I have to give this film a 7/10.

Well, that's it for the review. Tell me what do you think and I hope you guys enjoyed, Thank you for tuning in and I'll see you guys later. So this is James Kaloko and everyone in this world just stay loco, peace!

New Entries Ranked from Best to Worst (Billboard's July 16, 2016 Hot 100 Chart)

Hey guys, LokoReviews here and here is my ranking from best to worst on the new entries on this week's Billboard hot 100 chart. If you want to see the full chart, then click here. Now time for me to rank these new entries!

Best:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFLSOIufuhM
I Got The Keys- I honestly thought that this would be a train wreck, but it was pretty decent. Future did his usual stick by just repeating 1 word with a bunch of AutoTune, but it works and it didn't felt out of place or annoying. The beat in my opinion did felt a little weak on some parts of the song, but I did enjoy it though. Jay-Z also did a good job on this song and this is the most on point performance I heard from him in a while, but he did stumble a little on his 2nd verse. But other than that, he was the best part. As for DJ Khaled, he didn't do much (other than ramble) but that's a good thing. Overall, this song does have its problems. But it's decent and it's definitely better than "For Free". 3.5/5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-59jGD4WrmE
Sucker For Pain- This wasn't anything special, but it was decent. Dan Reynolds & Sam Harris did a fine job on here, even though their parts were short. Ty Dolla Sign was also fine on here and he definitely stayed the most focused with what he's saying & how it fits with the movie. Logic and Wiz Khalifa's part were pretty forgettable & I didn't really get anything out of their performances or lyrics. Lil Wayne definitely stole the show on this one and I liked how he mentions his personal life especially with the whole seizures situation. Overall, this is decent! 3/5

She Got A Way With Words- I had no interest listening to this song, because I'm not a huge fan of Blake Shelton or Country in general. But this okay in my opinion. Blake sounded decent on here while he sings about the break up of him and Miranda Lambert. But the writing in this song especially in the hook is the cheesiest thing ever. "She put the S.O.B. in sober. She put the hang in hangover (hangover). She put the ex in sex. She put the low in blow". You can't tell me that's the most cheesiest thing you ever saw. But other than that, this was okay. 3/5

LUVI heard and talked about this song before on Twitter, but I totally forgot how it went or what I said about it. After re-listening to it, I'm not surprised that I forgot about it because this is lackluster. Now I will admit that Tory Lanez and some parts on the beat don't sound too bad, but I just don't buy his accent he's pulling off and there's already a bunch of dancehall tracks on the charts & he's not bringing anything new. Speaking of dancehall, Tory Lanez bites a lot from One Dance by Drake. He made some references to that song and he even brung up the "Love Me Long Time" line from Full Metal Jacket (which is unnecessary and there's too many songs that reference it). Even with all that, I still don't find Tory Lanez as a sweet talker and him trying to get this random chick is just laughable in my opinion. I don't like this at all and it's even worse than Say It. 1.5/5

No Limit- Well, this was really boring and lackluster. Nothing about this song got me hyped or excited for Usher's return. Speaking of which, Usher sounds really bored in this song and his voice doesn't match with this dark and limp trap beat. As for the lyrics... Well, the lyrics is basically "Whatever You Like" by TI, but without the fun or charm to it. Also Usher says some stuff in this song that is not sexy at all and Usher is known for being sexy. As for Young Thug, his part was uninteresting as well. Besides 1 line that had me rolling my eyes, he served no use in this song. Overall, this was really boring and a huge disappointment from Usher. Step your game up, man! 1.5/5

Worst
